In many ways, this North Shore hamlet is a throwback to the good old days. Residents still visit the local Post Office to pick up their daily mail (no, really!) And, the only two shops in Glenwood Landing are antiques stores.

But what’s especially magical about this town (other than the fact that Houdini is rumored to have once lived here) is that, despite its small town feel, it’s only 20 miles from New York City and is part of the much-sought-after North Shore School District. The district is comprised of three elementary schools (including one in Glenwood Landing) and a middle school and high school, both of which are located in neighboring Glen Head.

Glenwood Landing is also proud of nearby Tappen Beach where residents come to not only soak in the sun, but also to swim laps in the outdoor community pool, launch boats from the marina and take in a summer’s evening outdoor concert. A stroll or bike ride along the tidy path that hugs the shoreline of Hempstead Harbor here is also a favorite pastime.

Tennis buffs will appreciate the four indoor courts at the esteemed Robbie Wagner’s Tournament Center. And Salutations, a new yoga studio, is harmonizing the community.

Glenwood Landing is also on the map for weddings and other celebratory occasions at the Swan Club, a catering restaurant that sits pretty on Roslyn Harbor. And, it is a neighbor of artsy Sea Cliff, a hilly village where you’ll find restored Victorian mansions and funky shops, bars and restaurants. A handful of shops, boutiques and restaurants is also plentiful in neighboring Glen Head.

The Glenwood Landing housing market is diverse both in price range and types of homes (some have Long Island Sound water views,) and housing developments continue to be built including new Landing Court, a cul-de-sac community.
